Nadal was beaten by Schwartzman in Italian Open

Rafael Nadal was beaten by Schwartzman in Italian open held in Rome.

Defending champion Rafa Nadal knocked out of the Italian Open with a remarkable performance by Diego Schwartzman in the quarter-finals beating Rafa with 6-2 7-5.

Rafael Nadal had won the Italian Open nine times in his career. He had won all nine matches which he played against the Argentine, but this time he fell short against Diego Schwartzman with multiple errors during the match. Nadal struggled with serve throughout the match.

The Italian Open was Nadal’s first tournament for the last seven months due to a global pandemic. Though Nadal showed some brilliant performance which helped him to go through from the previous two rounds while later he lost the match in the next round against 15th-ranked Schwartzman.

Nadal performed 30 unforced errors while his competitor Schwartzman’s has 17 during the match. This is one of the aspects why Argentine able to outperformed Nadal in the Quarter Finals.

Nadal said “Losing that many serves, you can’t expect to win a match, it is something that I have to fix. I know how to do it.”

Nadal will now prepare for the French Open for which he will travel to Paris. Nadal will be looking to extend his lead by securing another French Open title in Paris. Nadal has been the most dominant player in the history of the French Open. Nadal has won twelve French Open titles in his career which is most by any player.

Schwartzman now looking forward to facing Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals of the Italian Open after defeating Grigor Dimitrov with 6-2 3-6 6-2.

Novak Djokovic also secured his semi-final spot after defeating Dominik Koepfer with a 6-3 4-6 6-3.

Djokovic had continued his form and won the previous two rounds at the Italian Open. Koepfer lost the first set against Djokovic with 6-3 he came back in the second set and defeated Djokovic with 4-6 but ultimately lost the third set with 6-3 and Djokovic advanced to the Semi-Final.

Djokovic will take on Casper Ruud in the semi-final to seal his spot in the final. Casper Ruud on the other side defeated Matteo Berrettini with 4-6 6-3 7-6(5) in the Quarter Final of the Italian Open.

Djokovic said “Clay is definitely Casper’s preferred surface. This is where he feels most comfortable. It’s semi-finals and it’s anybody’s game.

“I’ll do some homework and be ready for that one.”

In the women’s draw, Simona Halep progressed to the semi-final as Yulia Putintseva retired due to the injury in the lower back while she was trailing behind with 6-2 2-0.

Simona Halep will now face Garbine Muguruza in the semifinal of the Italian Open.

Halep said “Every time I played well against her, I was as much as possible aggressive.

“If I play my best game, and if I feel great physically on the court, I have a big chance to win the match against her. But every time is different because she’s playing so hard. You don’t really know what to expect. It’s tough.”

Two times Rome Champion Elina Svitolina was surprised by Marketa Vondrousova who defeated her with 6-3 6-0.

Vondrousova will go against Karolina Pliskova in the semi-final, who had defeated the Belgium’s Elise Mertens with 6-3 3-6 6-0 to secure her place in the semis.
