10 Byron Nelson

Byron Nelson was an American professional who is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time.

Nelson was born within seven months of other two golf legends Ben Hogan and Sam Snead in 1912.

He enjoyed an illustrious career winning many tournaments, however, he is mostly recognized today for winning 11 consecutive tournaments and 18 total tournaments in 1945.

Nelson has a total of 52 PGA Tour wins. In 1974, Nelson accepted the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor given by the United States Golf Association in honor of distinguished sportsmanship in golf.

He became the second Golfer to receive the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. Nelson is number 10 in our list of the top 10 greatest golfers of all time.

9 Tom Watson

Tom Watson is an American professional golfer who is the dominant figure in the 1970s and 1980s.

Watson was one of the leading golf players in the world during his prime. He was the number one player in the world according to McCormack’s World Golf Rankings from 1978 until 1982 and again in 1983 and 1984.

During his career, he won eight major championships which include five Open Championships, two Masters titles, and one U.S. Open title.

The only major that has dodged him is the PGA Championship, If he would have won it he would be in an elite group of golfing “career grand slam” winners that includes Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.

Gary Player is a South African retired professional golfer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time. During his career, Gary won nine major championships on the regular tour and nine major championships on the Champions Tour.

He won a total of 150 professional tournaments on six continents over seven decades. Gary was placed into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

He was nicknamed the Black Knight, Mr. Fitness, and the International Ambassador of Golf. Gary is number 8 in our list of the top 10 greatest golfers of all time.

7 Arnold Palmer

Arnold Palmer was an American professional golfer who is widely considered one of the greatest and most charismatic players in the history of the game.

He won multiple events on both the PGA Tour and the circuit now known as PGA Tour Champions in 1955. He was Nicknamed The King and was one of golf’s most popular stars.

In a career traversing more than six decades, Palmer won a total of 62 PGA Tour titles from 1955 to 1973. He is fifth on the list of Tour’s all-time victory following just behind Sam Snead, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan.

Arnold won seven major titles from the 1958 Masters to the 1964 Masters. He also won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998.

Bobby Jones was an American amateur golfer who was one of the most significant figures in the history of the game.

The inventions that he taught at the Masters have been emulated by virtually every professional golf tournament in the world.

During his rise from 1923 to 1930, he overpowered top-level amateur competition and contested very successfully against the world’s best professional golfers.

Jones often beat stars including some big names like Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen. Jones is most well-known for his unique “Grand Slam,” consisting of his victory in all four major golf tournaments of his era in 1930.

Sam Snead was an American professional golfer who was one of the leading players in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.

Snead has been granted a record 94 gold medallions, for wins in PGA of America and was later credited with winning a record 82 PGA Tour events tied with Tiger Woods, including seven majors.

Snead was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. He was the best natural player ever in the history of the game. Snead is number 5 in our list of the top 10 greatest golfers of all time.

Walter Hagen was an American professional golfer and a prominent figure in the field. His tally of 11 professional majors is third behind the great Jack Nicklaus (18) and Tiger Woods (15).

He is known as the “father of professional golf,”. He is the man who brought fanfare, reputation, great prize money, and lucrative endorsements to the sport. Hagen is ranked one of the greatest golfers ever.

He also won the PGA Championship a record five times and the Western Open five times. Hagen summed up 45 PGA wins in his career.

3 Ben Hogan

Ben Hogan was an American professional golfer who is generally regarded to be one of the greatest players in the history of the game. He is renowned for his deep influence on golf swing theory and his ball-striking ability.

Hogan’s won a total of nine career professional major championships tying him with Gary Player and trailing behind the great Jack Nicklaus (18), Tiger Woods (15), and Walter Hagen (11).

He is one of only five players in the history of the game to have won all four majors: which includes the Master’s Tournament, The Open Championship, the U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship.

Woods is widely considered one of the greatest golfers of all time and one of the most prominent athletes in modern history. He is an inductee of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Woods has held multiple golf records. He has been the number one player in the world for the most successive weeks and for the greatest total number of weeks of any golfer in history. Woods has been awarded PGA Player of the Year a record 11 times.

He has won 15 professional major golf championships and 82 PGA Tour events. Woods leads all active golfers in career major wins and career PGA Tour wins.

Jack Nicklaus nicknamed The Golden Bear and is an American retired professional golfer. He is widely regarded to be one of the greatest golfers of all time.

Nicklaus won 117 professional tournaments in his career. He contested in 164 major tournaments, more than any other player in the history of the game, and finished with 73 PGA Tour victories, third behind Sam Snead (82) and Woods (82).

He also won The Open Championship at an age of 26 and becomes the youngest player to win all four golf majors.

Between 1971 and 1980, he won nine more major championships, surpassed Bobby Jones’s record of 13 majors, and became the first player to achieve a double and triple career grand slams. He is number 1 in our list of the top 10 greatest golfers of all time.
