In this post, we will check out the Remembering Robert Gallery career as a Raiders icon.

Robert Gallery, a former University of Iowa Hawkeye football legend, has attained a new level of invincibility. Gallery was one of the 22 former coaches and players named as members of the College Football Hall of Fame’s 2023 class.

Robert Gallery is a former offensive lineman for the University of Iowa who has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame’s 2023 class. The National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame have made the news recently.

From 2000 through 2003, Gallery, who attended East Buchanan High School in Masonville, Iowa, earned a letter as a Hawkeye offensive tackle. As a senior, he received unanimous first-team All-America recognition and was awarded the Outland Trophy, which is given each year to the nation’s top offensive lineman.

  The Beginnings

It all goes back to a chilly November evening in 2000 when Robert Gallery and his colleagues got off the bus in Iowa City, Iowa, hours after the University of Iowa football team had fallen to Minnesota by a field goal to end the season with a 3-9 record.

Nevertheless, the following three seasons were sweetener. The Hawkeyes won the Alamo Bowl and Floyd of Rosedale a year later. They won the Big Ten Championship in 2002, which happened to be decided on a trip back to Minnesota.

In 2003, when Gallery was a senior, the Hawkeyes won ten games, the Outback Bowl and Gallery was given the Outland Trophy, given to the top offensive lineman in the country.

No doubt, the Iowa Hawkeyes’ star player from 2000 through 2003 was Gallery. He won the 2003 Outland Award for being the best lineman in the nation.

He was chosen by Oakland as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, and he played 102 games with the Raiders and Seahawks, becoming one of the best NFL players from Iowa.

  The Following Years

The evening before the Iowa football team’s season opener against Wyoming, Gallery will be one of seven former Hawkeyes inducted into the 29th National Iowa Varsity Club Sports Hall of Fame class.

As a senior, Gallery was named Most Valuable Player and served as team captain, as aforementioned, the Oakland Raiders picked him with their second pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.

He participated in 104 games throughout his eight NFL seasons with the Raiders and Seattle Seahawks, starting 103 of them. In 2010, he received the NFL’s Ed Block Courage Award.

He played for the Raiders and Seahawks for eight seasons until leaving the NFL in 2012.

  Gallery Today

In 2003, the University of Iowa awarded Gallery a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He was a vast farm guy who was willing to work. He was a multi-sport athlete from an athletic family.

Nowadays, he resides in California with his wife, the former women’s basketball player for Iowa, Becca McCann, and their three children, Hayden, Brooklyn, and Lincoln.

Based on his playing career, Gallery is the 11th ex-Hawkeye to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Based on their work as college coaches, Earl Banks (Morgan State) and Bob Stoops (Oklahoma), both former Iowa players, are in the Hall of Fame.

In addition, five former Hawkeye head coaches—Eddie Anderson (1938–1942, 1946–49), Forest Evashevski (1952–60), Hayden Fry (1979–98), Howard Jones (1916–23), and Slip Madigan—are inducted into the Hall of Fame (1943-44).

Although his playing days in football are over, Gallery now spends most of his free time with his family and working on his company, Vintage Trucker LLC. The delivery of vintage American-made cars to elite athletes is Gallery’s area of expertise in his business operation.
