Navas must be classified as a Real Madrid legend – Morientes

Fernando Morientes says Keylor Navas deserved to be considered as one of the legends of the Real Madrid club.

Keylor Navas spent five seasons at Real Madrid winning La Liga and back to back three Champions League titles. He was considered one of the best goalkeepers during his time at Real Madrid in La Liga. Navas was voted best ‘keeper in the Champions League in 2018, he also won UEFA’s goalkeeper of the year award. Keylor Navas has joined PSG for a reported fee of €15 million in 2019.

Morientes, a former Madrid player believes that the goalkeeper should be considered among the very best and one of the greats of the club.

Morientes told ESPN “In the end, for example, at Real Madrid, I tell you that he is a legend,”

“A player like him who has been a part of three Champions League glory and great moments in Madrid must be classified as legends, without any doubt.”

Navas transfer from Levante to Madrid in 2014 considered a great move for the club and Costa Rica international established himself as the club’s number one goalkeeper after the Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas’ who departed from the club in the same year.

Morientes said Navas’ growth at Madrid had been immense, he has been a part of starting eleven in all three of their Champions League final wins between 2016 and 2018.

He added “Keylor Navas came as a substitute player for a great goalkeeper in our history as Iker Casillas was,”

“Little by little he gained the respect of the entire public, but he was also decisive in great moments in the history of the Real Madrid.”

Navas, who now plays for Paris Saint Germain has been confident about the potential of the club and also backed his current club for Champions League success this season.PSG are in quarter-final of the Champions League after defeating Borussia Dortmund in aggregate.

Navas told PSG’s official website “I know [the Champions League is] difficult, but it’s not impossible. So we’re ready to fight in this competition,” 

“I know my team-mates are super motivated after reaching Quarter Finals. They work a lot at home because they all know the importance of this competition, for the team, the club, the supporters. We know our responsibility.

“We are going to take a little time to pick up the pace because we are all physically good.”

Coronavirus Pandemic halted the competition but It’s expected that the remainder of the competition will going to be completed in August as domestic leagues across Europe look to complete their respective seasons by the end of July.
