Lionel Messi said that he is looking for a diverse role in Barcelona and more concerned about being a team player.

Lionel Messi says he is now “less obsessed with goals” during this stage of his career. He is more focused to contribute to the team and being a team player.

Lionel Messi is Barcelona’s all-time leading goal scorer with 635 goals out of 734 matches played. He is a legend at Barcelona and won every trophy at the club level.

Lionel Messi is on top of the list in all-time goalscoring charts for both Barcelona and his national team Argentina.

He is more concerned about helping his teammate on the field in recent years. He has shown that in the last season when he broke the record for the most assists in a single La Liga campaign, assisting 21 times to his team-mates.

Messi told the magazine ‘Garganta Poderosa’ – “Today I am less obsessed with goals, I try to contribute as much as I can to the team effort.”

Lionel Messi reveals involvement in community work

Speaking further, the Barcelona skipper highlighted the community work taking place back in his native Argentina to try and combat the devastating impact of coronavirus.

Messi donated around 1 million(£907,000/$1.2m) at the beginning of this year to help combat coronavirus, split between a Barcelona hospital and medical facilities back in his homeland.

He added “In this pandemic, we must sustain all the basic needs like water, food, and electricity.”

“It makes me proud to see how people are getting involved with working in community kitchens and dining halls in Argentina, especially in such tough times as we are going through.

“Inequality is the biggest problem of our society and we should all work together to fix this.”

Messi also stated that any trophies Barcelona win this year would be in honour of those battling Covid-19.

He said, “The copas that are raised this year should be for all the people who are involved to help in that way.”

Messi has scored one goal out of three matches for Barca this season. He remained confident to be at the Camp Nou though earlier he was heavily linked with Manchester City after Barca’s 8-2 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final.
